Biography

Julia Adriana

Singer-songwriter Julia Adriana is a 26-year-old artist from Rotterdam. Her musical journey began in her early childhood when her grandmother (Adriana) took her to various choirs in the Brabant region. During this period, Julia was inspired by artists like The Eagles, Joni Mitchell, and Etta James, as well as Dutch bands like BLØF. This early influence sparked a love for singing and songwriting, which has now become the core of her artistic expression.

In 2022, Julia graduated as a vocalist from the conservatory in Rotterdam. During this time, she was busy discovering what she wanted to express and create. For two years, she isolated herself in her student room, teaching herself piano and guitar, which form the foundation of her music.

This period of isolation led to a deeper understanding of her own artistic sound. Following this, a collaboration with Anton van Room emerged, resulting in the creation of the tracks for her debut EP. During this period, Julia and Anton experimented with sounds from the guitar, piano, ukulele, as well as chairs, tables, glasses, and books. They drew inspiration from artists like The 1975, Lizzy McAlpine, Madison Cunningham, and Maro.

Julia’s music is characterized by a melancholic tone and a mix of indie, pop, soul, and acoustic elements. With her captivating vocals, harmonies, and choruses, she crafts a sound that feels both raw and enchanting. Live, Julia performs in an acoustic setting with her guitarist, taking you on an experience that evokes the vibe of Joni Mitchell and Eva Cassidy.

After two years of work Julia Adriana recently released her debut EP ‘Homemade Love’. What began in a student room in Rotterdam-Zuid with an acoustic guitar has grown into a warm and heartfelt blend of indie, pop, and folk. Entirely brought to life in her own home studio, the EP features significant contributions from pianist and producer Anton van Room.

Julia has gained extensive experience as a backing vocalist, songwriter, and singer through projects like working with the Dutch band BLØF, performing as a stand-in at the Eurovision Song Contest,  collaborating with the Dutch band driewieler, and more. She also wrote a song for the Netflix film Fuck de Liefde 2, which topped charts worldwide. Her voice also resonates with a large audience on platforms like TikTok, where she’s known for making popular songs entirely her own.

Together with guitarist Florian Verhagen and keyboardist Anton Van Room, she brings her songs to life in intimate acoustic performances. This fall, she will tour across the country as part of Popronde.
